This is one of the most requested recipe that I received. Rice puto is one popular rice snack in the country. It’s just so easy to prepare and only require three main ingredients. So if you are craving for rice puto, you might love how to make one at home.
Here’s how to cook Rice Puto:
Ingredients:
1/2 kilo white rice
2 tbsp. baking powder
1 1/2 cups white sugar
cooking oil
Materials:
molders
banana leaves
steamer
Process:
1. Wash the rice thoroughly, then soak it overnight. Water should be enough to cover the rice.
2. After soaking, grind the rice to produce rice batter. (You can use a blender, but mine I brought it to the local market for grinding to make things easy for me)
3. Meanwhile, prepare the banana leaves. Heat it on top of the stove. That way, it will make the leaves easy to cut and to handle.
4. Cut them into smaller sizes, enough to fit the molders.
5. Place them in the molders while rubbing some amount of cooking oil to avoid the puto from sticking to the leaves.
6. After grinding, you’ll have the smooth rice batter. Add in the baking powder and the white sugar. Mixed everything well using a whisker.
7. Boil some water on the Masflex Steamer. Once it starts boiling, put in the molders while pouring the rice batter.
8. Cover and steam for about 20-30 minutes.
Ready and Serve!
Note from Delish:
This is one simple way of preparing rice puto. I got this process from my mother who once was selling puto rice at home. She even receives orders occasionally.
You can also add coconut milk if you want to. But for me to make it’s shelf life a bit longer, I didn’t coconut milk.

can i put coconut milk instead of water?
Yes. you sure can.

yes you that's fine to use too.
Hi. What about there's ready made Rice Flour? How many cups, and what about the water as well. I'd like to try your recipe. Simple and easy. Thanks.
You can at least use 4 cups of rice flour and around 3 cups of water. Or that would depend on the quality of rice flour you are using. You might need to add more water (gradually) to get the right consistency of the batter/mixture.
How many cups of water please?
Hi. After washing the rice, just put around about 1-1/2 cups of water or just enough to cover the rice to soak. same as that when you're cooking rice. But in case you want to add coconut milk, then you have to reduce the amount water before grinding.
Thank you.....
:)
Can I use rice flour instead?
Hi. Yes. But make sure to mix it well with water first and leave it overnight or about 4 hours at least. Refrigerate it for better results. Not soaking it for hours, you may end up a not so soft and fluffy puto. at some point, it may look like kutsinta.
When grinding the soak rice it includes the water already or drain it from the water??? Thank you.
Hi. you need to include the water :)
will it be okay if not to use banana leaves but moldng only?
yes. just use the molders. that would still be fine :)
hi can i use fresh milk/evap instead of water?
if you'd soak it overnight with milk, probably you need to refrigerate it. Or you can also add coconut milk.
Hi its ok if i add egg on putong bigas sa daho.and if ok how many eggs..thank you
Hi. I actually haven't tried that. but I think that's fine. maybe just one egg for half a kilo of rice.
If I want coconut milk what's the proportion?
just around 3/4 cups of coconut for a half kilo of rice batter.
Ilan ang sukat ng tubig n ilalagay sa pagbababad ng bigas

I don’t think you can wash rice flour..
certainly. When you use rice flour, it would be a different process. This process uses rice, so you have to wash and soak it.
hi po! kung may ground rice na po ako kilangan pa po bang isoak overnight?
Hi. Yes you need to. I suggest you soak with water or coconut milk, but make sure to refrigerate it. Soaking it will give that soft and fluffy texture.
